OVERVIEW
Join our team as a Senior Structural Project Engineer! The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay.
Matrix is seeking a self-driven senior-level Structural Engineering professional to join our team in the Kansas City, KS area. The position will work independently and as a part of a diverse team of multi-discipline engineers and architects to solve problems and execute projects for industrial and manufacturing clients. Typical structural projects include the layout, engineering design, and inspection of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and foundations for buildings, process structures, access platforms, mechanical equipment, conveyors and piping. Additionally, the position requires a strong knowledge of building and structural design codes.
This is a strategic position that will not only help grow our facilities design services but also help grow a regional engineering team that will support our clients located in the central United States. We are looking for a talented individual with strong organizational, management and interpersonal skills; someone who works effectively with clients to provide innovative solutions; a self-motivated person who will help plan and inspire the work efforts of others. Client interaction is a crucial responsibility of this role - the ideal candidate for this position will be able to build and grow successful client relationships over the course of a project.
The role requires an in-depth knowledge of design codes and the ability to interpret and communicate economical solutions for new construction and renovations. This position will be responsible for leading a variety of projects, and will coordinate the work of other engineers, architects, designers, and technical assistants for multi-office project teams. Level of responsibility will depend on current skill sets and the ability to learn and show competence in completing assignments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead project designs, direct other engineers and designers to complete structural designs in accordance with accepted practices and company standards.
Lead the development of contract documents including Revit models, drawings, details, specifications, and installation scopes of work.
Lead gathering field data including hand measurements, surveying, 3D scanning, and ground penetrating radar.
Lead estimating material take-offs and preparing budgetary construction cost estimates.
Manage discipline project budgets and tasks in accordance with scope of work outlined in project proposals.
Supervise and direct assigned project personnel and monitor productivity, man-hours used, project changes, and adherence to predefined scope of services.
Maintain and submit accurate budget and schedule forecasts to Project Manager, Department Manager, and Client.
Maintain project correspondence file to include project-related emails, letters, scope change documentation, and associated documents.
Mentor other engineers and designers to facilitate a learning experience for subordinate personnel.
Work with Department Manager for team improvements, technology needs, sales strategies, proposal development and production efficiency.
Maintain positive client relations and develop potential new work opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of experience as a Structural Project Engineer or equivalent
Four-year ABET-accredited Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
PE or SE required
Structural drafting knowledge using AutoCAD and/or Revit
Experience and ability to guide others in design of structures and foundations for buildings and equipment using engineering design software such as Risa or RAM Structural Systems.
Experience and ability to guide others using 3D modeling software such as Revit
Working with 3D scans and experience preparing construction cost estimates are a plus
Ability to travel
Ability to self-manage assignments for multiple projects
Positive and proactive attitude
Strong communication skills with clients and team members
Chemical, refining, manufacturing, or food experience a plus

We offer market-competitive compensation for a Senior Structural Engineer with a base range of $105,000 to $131,000 annually, and a total compensation package that includes quarterly bonuses, 401(k) matching, and overtime pay. Salaries are based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
